Santa Cruz City Schools salutes the following seniors recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program:

More than 1.5 million high school juniors take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) test every spring. This September approximately 50,000 students qualified for recognition; 34,000 of the highest scorers received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their accomplishment and promise. Just 16,000 are identified as Semifinalists; the highest scoring entrants in each state. This year's Semifinalists will compete for Merit Scholarships in Spring 2017. Seniors advancing to Finalist status must have an outstanding academic record throughout their high school years, receive their principals’ recommendation, write an essay and achieve substantial SAT scores.
